There is only so much you can learn from a brochure. Walk through a venue, sit down with its team, try the local food and spend time with the people who make things happen, and you start to see how a wedding could really work there.

Our wedding familiarisation trips, usually called FAM trips, bring wedding and travel professionals together with venues, local experts and destinations. WeddingsAbroad.com founder Karen Thornton-Brown has been connecting people across the destination wedding industry since 1999. This is another way to turn those introductions into shared experiences and useful relationships.

Is a wedding FAM trip for you?

If you want to understand a destination, meet the people you could work with and come home with more than a camera roll of lovely views, you are in the right place.

Depending on the programme, trips may suit wedding planners, travel agents, tour operators, celebrants, photographers, videographers and other relevant wedding specialists. Each visit has its own audience and selection criteria, based on the destination, the hosts and the professionals taking part.

What might we get up to?

• Explore venues and hotels: see the spaces, ask practical questions and get a feel for the guest experience.
• Meet local experts: spend time with planners, suppliers and hospitality teams who know their area.
• Talk business: make introductions through meetings, discussions and informal networking.
• Experience the destination: discover its food, culture and the little details you can share with clients.
• Learn together: take part in showcases and conversations about different celebrations and markets.

And yes, there may be some laughter and dancing along the way. Time to relax together is part of getting to know the people behind the businesses.

FAM trip stories & destination discoveries

Cilento, southern Italy | 5 to 9 October 2026

Our recent Cilento visit combined venue discoveries, local hospitality, networking and wedding experiences. From the welcome at Palazzo Antonietta in San Marco di Castellabate to the closing event at Savoy in Paestum, it gave professionals time to explore the destination and connect.

WeddingsAbroad.com collaborated with Michelle and the team at Italy Bride & Groom Weddings, and Priti Raichura Events. Michelle brought her local knowledge and coordinated the programme on the ground. Priti and her team created an Indian wedding showcase on the beach, with attendees stepping into roles in the wedding party and family for a staged learning experience.

Karen’s Cilento diary is on its way. Expect the venues, food, people and celebrations, plus the personal moments that never make it onto an itinerary.

What is included?

Every programme is different. Hosted accommodation, meals, transfers, visits and activities vary; flights and other expenses may be payable separately. Full details are shared for each confirmed programme before you commit. Registering interest does not confirm a place or booking.

Show us your venue or destination

Are you a venue, hotel, tourism organisation or local specialist with somewhere wonderful to share? We would love to hear what makes it special and who you would like to introduce it to.

A visit might focus on one venue or explore a wider area. Together, we can discuss a relevant professional audience, local experiences and opportunities to tell the story before, during and after the visit.

• Before: understand your aims, the audience and what professionals need to learn.
• During: create time for visits, practical conversations and personal introductions.
• After: explore relevant content, follow-up and ways to keep the connections going.

Host contributions, budgets, responsibilities, branding, image permissions and follow-up activity are agreed for each project. We focus on useful experiences, informed introductions and lasting visibility; future enquiries and bookings depend on the fit and continued work of the businesses involved.
