With short flights, an average 320 days of sunshine and cava at less than €2 a bottle, southern Spain is one of the most affordable winter sunshine wedding destinations!

Where else can you ski in the morning, sunbathe on the beach in the afternoon and pick lemons directly off the tree for your evening gin and tonic?

Winter sunshine weddings Spain – getting there

Malaga international airport is serviced by all the major airlines making getting to southern Spain EASY!

Flying out of season means you and your wedding guests can take advantage of some incredible offers and LOW FARES!

Malaga itself is a quick bus or taxi ride from the airport with transport links reaching out to every corner of the region of Andalucia and beyond.

Malaga old town is absolutely gorgeous with its tapas bars and street cafés protected by the castle that looks out over the sparkling Mediterranean – and the city even boasts its very own BEACH

So where can you have your winter weddings in southern Spain?

City and beach winter weddings in Malaga

I recently spent time as the guest of LePanto, a Spanish catering company offering a wedding planning service at a range of exclusive wedding venues within minutes of the city centre.

Monte Miramar Palace
The luxury red carpeted entrance to this private villa never fails to impress. Whilst it can host up to 300 guests, you can part-rent the venue for smaller, intimate weddings.
With beautiful views from the garden to the sea, Monte Miramar Palace has one of the most impressive Plan B locations you could hope to find. An indoor alternative is super important for winter weddings as whilst the majority of days are clear and sunny in low season there will inevitably be the occasional wet day.

The Castle of Santa Catalina
Standing on the original sitefrom 1624, Castillo de Santa Catalina offers accommodation and is now a boutique hotel with stunning views across the Mediterranean – but again with the most opulent Plan B

Chapel and country house Senorio LePanto
For an alternative to the sea or the city, consider a cosy private chapel set in the Malaga mountains. Pretty little Senorio LePanto private chapel incorporates the La Herradura country house and gives full flexibility from micro weddings to hosting up to 550 guests. Ask LePanto for their special deals for guest accommodation and transfer from the city to the venue. See my venue review here

Snow and sun winter weddings in historic Granada

Still in Andalucia, Granada city has its own airport, is well serviced by road and rail links and is less than an hour inland from the microclimate of the Costa Tropical coast.
What does this mean?
Well. with the longest ski season in Europe, in winter Granada can truly offer you a two-centre wedding experience! How about skiing the Sierra Nevada in the morning and sunbathing on the beaches in the afternoon to create the most amazing wedding-moon!

Costa Tropical Villa La Cresta
On Granada’s Costa Tropical, the luxury private Villa La Cresta has a birds-eye view over Marina del Este to the back and the Spanish mountains to the front. In this glorious microclimate oranges, lemons, avocados, mangos and pomegranates all come into season during the winter months and can be picked directly off the trees.

Luxury winter weddings in Seville

Claiming to be the capital of southern Spain, Seville is the home of oranges, flamenco dancing and makes up the final third of our Andalucian triangle of Malaga, Granada and “Sevilla”.
Cruise ships navigate right up the Guadalquivir river making a post wedding honeymoon cruise eminently possible!

Villa Luisa, Seville
The private Villa Luisa is a hidden oasis right in central Seville. A vibrant carpet leads down from the main house to the Moorish inspired fountains for your outdoor ceremony. The salón de cristal makes the ideal indoor alternative, bringing the outdoors in and making the most of the warmth of the winter sunshine. See these beautiful real wedding photos of the November weddings of a UK couple.

For the best winter sun destination wedding you won’t get any better value for money than Andalucia and southern Spain!
