Getting engaged is the first step in your lifelong journey together. Been invited to a wedding abroad? Then plan carefully….

One sixth of Britons now marry abroad. Alice Olins went to three weddings last year – in Italy, South Africa and Florida… In the last five years, the number of British couples getting married abroad has increased by 43 per cent to an estimated 51,300 in 2008. According to a Mintel report, that’s a whopping 16 per cent of all marriages registered in the UK. This is extremely good news for the bride and groom. But what about the guests? Well it certainly beats the local registry office. But being invited to a wedding abroad involves more than just the …

New rules for easy church weddings…..

Easy Church Weddings     The Church of England has pledged to play a greater role in the marriage market as new legislation making it easier to tie the knot in a chosen parish comes into force. Couples hoping to get married will have a greater choice of churches to choose from under the Marriage Measure, which has become law, the Church of England said. Up until the law change, a couple could only marry in a parish church where one of them was resident or on the parish electoral roll unless they had a special licence from the Archbishop …

If you are a Wedding Planner PLEASE READ…..Scam Alert….

In addition to brides and grooms, I know a lot of wedding planners and service providers log on to the Weddings Abroad Blog. Today, I’d like to take a moment to warn them to be on their guard for email scams targeting wedding planners. There isn’t a week goes by that I don’t receive at least three of these emails. This current scheme has been going on for the past year that I know of, and basically involves sending in a cashiers check for an amount greater than what you’ve billed them, they then ask you to transfer the …

Weddings abroad and the current economic climate…

Speaking with several wedding and travel professionals over the past week, it appears that the current economic climate seems to be steering clear of the wedding industry. Many are seeing an increase in bookings for both honeymoons and weddings for 2009. Increasingly, many couples have opted to get married abroad, with the trend for so-called wedding tourism, increasing year-on-year. Given the average cost of a UK wedding now to be in excess of £20,000 no wonder destination weddings are becoming more popular. With the affordability of low cost flights to many destinations, WeddingsAbroad.com offers exceptional weddings at fantastic locations around …

What a month!

Finally I am back at my desk after a long summer holiday spent on the Balearic Island of Mallorca. We had a fabulous trip spending time making memories with our three precious children. Relaxing it certainly was not! Enjoyable it was! They went to bed only when we did and woke when we did too, so 24/7 in each other’s company….hard work but so very rewarding. Also as I celebrated my 40th (sssh! don’t tell anyone) two weeks ago I thought being in the sunshine would make it more bearable than the rain! Yesterday my little boy Sebastian started school, …

Crunch-hit brides opt for Friday weddings

By Jonathan Petre The credit crunch has led to hundreds of brides switching their big day to Friday to save on the spiralling cost of weddings. New research shows that church weddings, traditionally held on Saturday afternoons, are increasingly taking place a day earlier when cars, caterers and photographers are cheaper. The trend has been growing for a number of years as the cost of getting married has mushroomed, but Church of England clergy say the phenomenon is even more apparent now as couples struggle to pay for their wedding and a mortgage. 08.08.08 – An Auspicious D8te!!

Russian marriage offices have seen a surge of applications to wed today, due to the supposedly lucky character of the date: 08.08.08, officials and local media said. In Moscow, registry offices will stay open late as applications to marry on August 8 are up by more than two thirds compared to a normal Friday in summer, a spokeswoman for the city’s registry offices Yevgenia Smirnova said. Normally between 900 and 1,000 marriages take place on a regular Friday or Saturday in summer, she said, but applications had already reached 1,675 by the end of last week. More than 16,400 Beijing …

Creating lasting memories….

Of course, it was to be our first girl’s trip away just the two of us…. my daughter Georgina and I and we were both incredibly excited. We decided we would visit London in the school summer holidays, but a “secret” business meeting was requested and I decided to combine both. I know it’s all a little cloak and dagger, but I am very superstitious and don’t want to tempt fate! As my PR guru Claire …

Nor is there any after school multi-skills activities and Saturday school of performing arts are on their summer break too….hurray! Hence why I am still in my pj’s and the emptied toy chests are strewn across the orangery floor, the villain-on-wheels ( baby in baby walker) is flying across the floor at speeds Lewis Hamilton would qualify with, and the children are playing outside in the …

Media Mayhem!

In the blink of an eye, I found myself surrounded by two piles of inanimate objects. In this case, it was three pairs of killer heels (didn’t I already mention how highly they feature in my life?), about fifteen pieces of neck and arm adornments, three pairs of jeans, and various bags and boxes. Two problems were obvious to me, my indecisiveness and secondly the amount of choice. I found my “choices” now by the front door awaiting the arrival of Claire (Claire Barber PR), who appeared like a vision with her basket resplendent of little red riding hood, brimming …

When it comes to getting married, usually no expense is spared for what is after all a once-in-a-lifetime event. “People tend to get married , whether they have a job or not, whether they get a promotion or not,” says David Wood, the president of the Association of Bridal Consultants, a nationwide training organization for wedding planners. A recent survey undertaken by the National Association of Catering Executives (NACE) reported that they are not seeing increases in cancellations of weddings due to the slowdown in the economy.
